Sir,
I have the honour to address you with reference
to the establishment of the Department of Imports and Exports.
The senior officers in the establishment consist of a
Superintendent and an Assistant Superintendent (both Cadet
Officers), and an Analyst who also holds the post of an
Assistant Superintendent. This allotment of officers has
existed unchanged since 1925 when the second Cadet Officer was
added and since that year many extra functions, notably the
collection of statistics and the issue of Certificates of
Origin and kindred matters, have been imposed until the volume of the Department's work has increased very considerably.
The Superintendent has on several occasions recently made representations that his staff is insufficient for the adequate despatch of business and safeguarding of
In view however of the stringent need for economy in the Colony at present he did not press for the inclusion in the 1937 Estimates of an extra post since he hoped for the time being to carry on with his existing staff with the occasional assistance of a Junior Cadet should the services
of such an officer be available.
